My new GSD puppy yelps for no apparent reason?

After she wakes and we go to touch her she yelps like we yanked on her ear. She doesn't have ear mites, and there is no smell or discharge coming from the ears so I have ruled them out, but there is no other visible reason for her discomfort. I ever treated her for ear mites just to make sure and use a prescription ear cleaner. Does anyone have a clue what this could be? And yes i have a vet appointment so please don't just give me the whole "take her to the vet BS". I already know this and am doing it so I'm just looking for another possible explanation until my appointment. Thanks for your help!
