How to find a lost cat? help!?

any techniques to finding a lost cat?? there are woods, a pond (with gators) and a major highway all around our house and he got out this morning and we havnt seen him since. i want to find him before he runs into anything he wont like, like a tire, gator, snake, or perhaps any other pond creature that likes to eat cats. any techniques to finding on??? not wearing a collar and he is deep brown and black (Maine coon) s pleaseo i cant just walk out and see him in the woods as apposed to a white cat or somthin. pls help?
