He should go now in case he regrets it later. Tell him that more good may come out of his being there than at home. If he's there, he can comfort other family members, say good bye, and have closure. My grandfather ped away a couple years ago and my mom said the one thing she regrets the most was not visiting more when she got married and moved an hour away. Now she can't do anything about it.
