Why is our puppy eating gr every time he goes outside?

Every time our new 10 week old puppy goes outside he eats gr and leaves! Some friends say it's because he has a tummy ache and other friends say it's because they like it and that it's good for them. He's on Purina Puppy Chow. Could he be having any sort of digestive upset? Or does he just like it?
